Welcome to Retro Chat, welcome to a look at all the good, bad and damn right crazy world of TV, movies, video games, and professional wrestling from the years gone by. It is our intention to bring you some entertaining content as well as showcasing Andy’s lack of knowledge on pretty much any subject (bar Star Trek!!)
Our History – Lee and Andy
The Retro Chat podcast is hosted by Andy Evans, a podcast veteran who has both hosted and launched (as well as help launch) a number of shows over the years some of which gained critical acclaim and some which havent.
I started podcasting back in the early 2000’s after being invited to guest host on a wrestling show called “The Squared Circle” with Lee Tyers.
Both Lee and I at the time lived in Bournemouth and the pairing instantly connected. After this guest host spot, I was invited back to do another and then became a permanent member of the hosting team. During it’s time on air TSC became known as the “UK’s number 1 pro wrestling radio show” and earned numerous awards at the “Wrestling Radio Awards” including Best Show, Best Male and Female Interviews.
This show evolved into the Ministry of Slam, which I remained with until the end of 2009, at this time the pairing between Lee and myself came to an end. Lee decided to continue with a refreshed and revamped MOS, whilst I went and set up the Total Wrestling Show.
Ministry of Slam is still on the air (thanks Law), and now has a brand new format as they broadcast LIVE on Twitch every Sunday at 7pm GMT, check them out on their official website at this link
The Total Wrestling Show
After I left MOS, I set up the Total Wrestling Show, alongside Dan Barnsdall, Steve Grieve and Cybil. The show had the same premise as MOS, but was different this time, as quite simply I had no safety net and had to learn how to produce, edit and create content as Lee had previously taken care of it. But we struggled through and in the end the show became highly successful interviewing some of the biggest names in the industry and working with wrestling companies up and down the UK as well as internationally.
In 2017, TWS closed it’s doors but the fan support continues to this day.
2 Men and Their Mics
Following the closure of TWS, I took some time out, got married, and then came back with Jason Dempsey to launch “2 Men and Their Mics”, a totally different concept to previous as it was all about entertainment, Marvel, DC, sci fi and some topical debates. Whilst still on air, the show is currently on sabattical.
